Locum GPs in big demand

A GPOnline survey has found more than half of surveyed GPs reported a rising dependence on locum doctors over the past year. The results also revealed that around a fifth said locums now fill at least a quarter of shifts at practices where they work.
Among GP partners, 23% said the proportion of shifts filled by locums had increased significantly over the past year, the survey found.

The survey’s results mirror the trends we have seen with locum GP vacancies within MCG Healthcare. Over the past 2 years we’ve seen the number of surgeries turn to using a locum rise from by a staggering 22%.

We have been able to bridge the shortage in salaried GPs by providing top candidates for locum roles, while working with our clients to also provide a long term fixed solution. This hybrid solution has helped several practices secure salaried GPs for their surgeries who started off as locums. We have seen this solution really help many surgeries and unlike some locums and agencies, this solution is affordable!
